Volunteering in Oaxaca
While you are doing international volunteer work on a Projects Abroad placement, you have the ideal opportunity to learn a new language as well as immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of your host country.
It’s very rewarding to learn Spanish in Oaxaca-Mexico, while living the local lifestyle. Our language courses offer a combination of personally tailored lessons and daily opportunities for practice. Consequently, you will make great progress and may surprise yourself with how quickly you are able to grasp a new language. It is certainly easier than learning back home!
Our Spanish Language programs in Mexico are tailored to your level and run alongside your volunteer work or internship. If you are volunteering for a short time, you can take part in 40-hour or 25-hour language courses. If you’re looking for more in-depth study and are on a volunteer project or international internship for at least twelve weeks, you could take part in a 60-hour course.
Types of Volunteer Programs:
Work with Children and Youth: Social services in Oaxaca-Mexico are chronically underfunded, particularly those that work with orphans, children in poor communities, and children of single mothers. Volunteers in this realm nurture these children, and their work is truly an investment in Mexico’s future.
Environmental: Mexico is one of a few “mega-diverse” countries in which most of the world’s biological diversity is found. A number of different projects work to maintain this diversity, and volunteers might conduct flora and fauna censuses or provide community education about conservation. Experience in biology and botany is a plus.
Education: Schools in Oaxaca-Mexico can’t keep up with growing numbers of students. Poor students rarely have access to English and computer classes, which provide economic mobility, and volunteers can help create these opportunities for underserved youth.
On a Spanish Language School in Mexico you can learn Spanish in the beautiful city of Oaxaca. Oaxaca is a vibrant and attractive city where, after/while completing your Language Project, you could also participate in a wide variety of volunteer and internship opportunities.
